Andrew pointed something out that made it all make sense to me. An odd number of cols will produce a grid with more asymmetry.

Working the text with the flow of the image

I asked Yoshi, and decided to pursue the image of the woman’s face, because the text seemed to flow with the nose more.

There does seem to be a hotspot between the pm and the nose though, in the second image. hm

Fixed. I’m done, yay
